چکیده

S tatin treatment is a safe and effective method of reducing cardiovascular events in both primary and secondary prevention. 2 Persistence with statin use in trials is generally high. Analysis of the WOSCOPS (west of Scotland coronary prevention study) showed that the efficacy of pravastatin depends on compliance. Although long term persistence with statin treatment in elderly patients has been studied, 4 little is known about long term persistence in the general population including all age categories and both primary and secondary prevention. The aim of this study was to assess long term persistence with statin use in the general Dutch population and to identify the determinants of failure to persist with these drugs.

Long-term persistence in use of statin therapy in elderly patients.

CONTEXT Knowledge of long-term persistence with 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitor (statin) therapy is limited because previous studies have observed patients for short periods of time, in closely monitored clinical trials, or in other unrepresentative settings. OBJECTIVE To describe the patterns and predictors of long-term persistence with statin therapy in an elderly ...

Treatment with statins and involvement of the peripheral nervous system: results of a prospective clinical and neurophysiological follow-up.

AIMS To study the pathological changes in neurophysiological examination of lower-limb peripheral nerves in patients with long-term statin treatment. METHODS Forty-two patients (23 males, 19 females, mean age 51.9 and 52.3 years) with a definitive diagnosis of combined hyperlipidemia were studied. Other metabolic disorders or chronic ethanol abuse were excluded. Initial examinations included ...

Impact of concurrent medication use on statin adherence and refill persistence.

BACKGROUND Effective therapy for chronic illness requires daily medication adherence (DMA) for prolonged periods. Overall medical regimen complexity may represent one barrier to successful adherence. METHODS To assess the relationship between the number of concurrently prescribed medicines and adherence to 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (statins), we analyzed a coh...
